Welcome to my corner of the web!
I’m Salem Al-Tamimi, a dedicated Program Manager with a rich background in the IT industry and a passion for driving projects that bridge the gap between technology and business. Born and raised in a multicultural environment, I’ve always been fascinated by the power of technology to connect people, solve complex problems, and transform businesses across the globe.
My passion and love for Information Technology began in the UAE where I grew up. My father operated a successful Computer Training and Hardware repair shop in Abu Dhabi in the 80’s and 90’s (Al-Tamimi Computer Services) where I spent my summers learning all about computers and coding, so I was exposed to computers and programming at a very young age.
Education
University of New Bunswick (Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada) – 1999 to 2005
I left the UAE for Canada in 1999 to pursue a higher education. At the University of New Brunswick, I obtained a Bachelor of Computer Science degree. This foundational period not only equipped me with the technical and project skills for my future career but also ignited my passion for continuous learning and professional development.
Beyond my undergraduate degree, I have sought to expand my expertise and stay abreast of industry trends through various certifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP), issued by the Project Management Institute in July 2023, has honed my ability to manage projects with precision and strategic vision.
- Agile Certified Professional (PMI-ACP), also from the Project Management Institute in December 2018, reflecting my adaptability and commitment to agile project management methodologies.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) from the AIGPE Institute in May 2023, showcasing my dedication to process improvement and efficiency.
Experience
Over the past 18 years, I’ve had the privilege of working within the dynamic IT industry. During my career I have been managing client projects and leading teams in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. This international exposure has been invaluable, teaching me the importance of cultural sensitivity, flexibility, and effective communication in a globalized market.
RBC Capital Markets (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) – July 2019 to Sep 2023
As a Senior Project Manager and later as a Program Manager, I managed a portfolio of strategic and regulatory IT projects for Canada’s largest bank in the Capital Markets division. My role involved coordinating with cross-functional teams, managing resources, and ensuring projects were completed on time and within budget. My efforts were recognized with a promotion to Program Manager just six months after my hire.
Citco Technology Management (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) – June 2012 to July 2019
My first foray in the responsibilities of a Technical Lead and Project Manager. At Citco, I spearheaded several enterprise-level projects, integrating advanced technologies such as Microservices, BPM, RPA, and AI data analytics tools. My work focused on enhancing operational and strategic initiatives through innovative solutions.
RapidMind Solutions Inc. (Saint John, New Brunswick) – Nov 2008 to June 2012
After spending 3 years post-graduation as a Software Developer, I joined RapidMind Solutions as a SharePoint Consultant and Senior Developer. There, I conducted systems analysis, designed and implemented custom solutions, and worked closely with clients to improve their business processes through technology.
